Great news on Patty . . . Thank you to everyone who wrote to express your concern over Patty (see "Blackmail on the Net!," below). Patty has gotten significant help in her struggle with blackmail and is working to rebuild her site.
You have probably noticed my comment about the closure of Patty’s web site, A Creative Spanko Wench, which I’ve left intact, below. I wasn’t free to disclose the details, but now that Patty has come forward I can do so.
Patty called me on July 14 to tell me that someone threatened her job—her livelihood and her survival—if she didn’t disappear from the internet. This was the result of her ill-advised decision to accept a donation in the name of her son who had died, not in a drunk driving accident, but from suicide some time before. What she did was wrong but the retribution that was threatened was completely out of proportion and utterly without moral justification.
Patty and I spent an hour on the phone, and additional hours in the days to come, brainstorming about her options. At the time, without more information, it was clear that the prudent thing to do was to deactivate her web site. She has spent years giving outstanding service to her present employer; to lose that job would be catastrophic emotionally and financially. I supported her decision to take her web site down long enough to learn more about her options.
I have visited Patty at her workplace, met her boss, visited with her coworkers. I know how highly she is esteemed, how much responsibility she has earned, and how devastating it would be to lose all that.
Fortunately she has learned that her job situation is stronger, and her blackmailer’s position weaker, than we at first thought. I will let her tell you the story herself. . . see her post on this topic on her blog. However, Patty has not resurrected her blog, although I am hopeful that she will do so in the future.
I am deeply shocked at this outrageous attempt at blackmail. If someone does something that you think is illegal, go to the police. That’s the right thing to do. If someone does something that you think is rude or immoral, tell our internet community, that is also appropriate.
But to serve as judge and jury and try to impose this heavy penalty . . . there is absolutely no excuse for that. That is literally taking the law into your own hands.
It is the act of a person without a soul.
If you read this and you share my outrage, take whatever action you can to protest this criminal act that threatens us all.
If you are the person who sent her these anonymous and threatening letters, I ask you to look deep into your heart. I hope you can find the courage to publicly acknowledge your mistake and apologize to Patty. If you can do this, then perhaps you can begin to look at yourself in the mirror again.

Patty is a personal friend of mine. She lived alone after the death of her her husband and the suicide of her son. I can't imagine surviving tragedy of that magnitude. Patty made mistakes . . . we all do . . . but her departure leaves us all poorer.
Despite her heartbreak, Patty produced wonderful spanking erotica, much of it drawing on memories of life as it was when she still had a charmed existence. To lose her contributions . . . it's a sad day.
