But to begin with growing up in Scotland as a child in the early 50's I would probably say that all of my friends would have received punishments, at home and at school.
Though I have never understood when I have read an article and youngsters say they received 100 strokes with the cane or similar in my view that is sheer nonsense, the most I ever received for extremely bad behavior was 12 strokes and that was more than enough.
After the first spanking that I can recall, I wouldn't have dreamed of arguing with my parents when they told me I was to receive a spanking, or Tanning as my father would say, I could never understand why he used that word, my mother always said spanking or slippering.
I can't remember much about any spankings I received before about 7 years of age, only very vague memories, I suppose I was regarded as being a rather willful and disobedient child so punishment was frequent, and sometimes given as a warning or reminder.
In a strange way when my father gave me a spanking I began to enjoy it, more than my mother giving me one, I think it was because they were not particularly demonstrative people and it made me feel loved and secure and I had their attention. I suppose I wanted to please and be noticed by my father so in some ways that is possibly why I would be naughty. My last Tanning was given just after my 19th my parents had always told me that I was never too old to be spanked on a bare bottom. My parents believed that all spankings should take place with skirt and pants removed. In some ways it was humiliating and depending on the implement, position, and different words used would be dependent on how sore I would be afterwards,
I often think about as well how two parents had such different styles of spanking, obviously you have received many people writing to you, but I wondered if you have heard of a warm up spanking, If I had been very naughty both parents would spank, my father would instruct me if it was to be over the knee or go to my parents room, the strap or tawse was always given in the sitting room over the sofa arm. My father would tell me to have my bottom bared ready and my mother would give me a warm up, with her chosen implement, Then I was told my father would come and give me a 'serious Tanning' why they called it a 'serious Tanning' I shall never know.
My mother was a very petite woman, One of my earliest memories was refusing to get off the floor I was probably quite young, about 8yrs and I thought if I sat on the floor she wouldn't be able to spank me, She favoured a large leather slipper with a leather sole, or her hand for less serious offences, But I wouldn't budge off the floor, it sounds stupid but I really believed I wouldn't receive any punishment, Boy she could move fast I do remember that everything she did was quick. Before I knew it, my pants were down my legs virtually over my head and a very stingy bendy plastic fly swat was rapidly having contact with my bottom. I thought that was bad but what I hadn't realised was that parents talked and she told my father exactly what had taken place, the strange thing is I can't even remember what I was getting spanked for. I did learn that I would never disobey like that again, as my father took me upstairs folded my skirt and pants neatly and told me how naughty I had been for disobeying and that I would have a very red bottom when he had finished. Over the knee and he believed in making it last. He never spanked as hard as my mother but the end product was more painful. My father would spank in a way quite softly but the end result due to the time he took resulted in a deep crimson and hot to the touch and me sobbing. Then he would tell me he loved me and rub my bottom for quite a while which was what I remember enjoying.
